PDLC - Smart Glass Film

Electrically controlled fogging glass film (also known as smart glass film or color-changing glass film) is a smart building material that can control transparency through electricity, and is therefore hailed as an “electronic curtain.” Its core feature is the ability to instantly switch states: when powered on, it becomes transparent and clear, enhancing natural lighting and a sense of open space; when powered off, it turns into an opaque frosted effect, instantly blocking the line of sight to protect privacy.

This type of glass not only features a simple, space-saving appearance, but also blocks 99% of ultraviolet rays and provides excellent sound insulation without compromising light transmittance. Although it costs more than traditional glass and requires pre-wiring, it combines the dual functions of a safety-certified shatter-resistant barrier and a projection screen, making it well worth the investment.

The response speed of the smart glass film between clear and frosted states can reach the millisecond level (one-thousandth of a second). It switches freely, efficiently, and scientifically. Suitable for building doors and windows, it saves the space normally occupied by curtains. It is widely used in office buildings, offices, villas, hotel shower rooms, glass curtain walls, greenhouses, and many other places. It offers dazzling and high-tech effects that ordinary transparent or tinted glass cannot achieve, making it ideal for customers who require high privacy protection.

Whether fixed or movable glass, as long as the film can be applied, it can be used. The smart glass film also functions as a projection film and supports 4K projection. Its transparent properties can be used on the exterior glass walls of conference rooms, or to replace traditional projection screens, turning them into whiteboard walls for video playback.

How the Frosted Glass Film works

Smart fogging film is a new type of special architectural decorative glass that combines electronic technology and glass technology. It is a high-tech material made from flexible film as the raw material, produced through efficient light-sensing and nano-material film inner-layer lamination technology. Its main feature is that it uses electric current to control the molecular arrangement of the new liquid crystal material (ITO dimming film) inside the glass, achieving either a clear or frosted state.

When powered off (frosted/opaque): The liquid crystal molecules are arranged irregularly. Incident light is scattered within the polymer layer, causing the glass to appear milky white and opaque.

When powered on (transparent): After voltage is applied, the liquid crystal molecules align in an ordered direction, allowing light to pass through the glass and turning it transparent. Simply put, it is frosted glass when not powered and becomes transparent glass when powered—indistinguishable from ordinary clear glass.

  6. Dust-Proof & Dirt-Resistant: The surface of the electrically controlled fogging film is smooth and flat, preventing dust adhesion and making it easy to clean.
